That moment in the spinoff series has almost single-handedly revitalized the Star Wars franchise in the wake of the divisive Star Wars sequel trilogy. The last time fans saw his character was in the The Mandalorian season 2 finale, which used Hamill and a body double to digitally render the actor as he was in 1983’s Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Hamill has previously taken to social media to share details about the Wampa scene as well as express his overall love for Star Wars and his character.

Luke went on to become one of the greatest Jedi of all time, seemingly leaving his days hanging up in Wampa caves behind him. Therefore, a couple of crew members held him up in-between takes. The only problem was, the longer he hung upside down, the redder his face became. Above the image, Hamill explains that to film the famous Wampa cave scene he had to hang upside down for extended periods. In an image shared by Hamill on Twitter, the actor revealed a new piece of simple, yet essential Star Wars trivia that happened on the set of The Empire Strikes Back. Hamill has previously talked about how scenes evoking “Force Pull” were often filmed backwards. Therefore, a fair amount of tension is felt when Luke concentrates, uses the Force to pull his lightsaber towards him, frees himself, and then dismembers the Wampa before escaping and being saved from freezing to death by Han Solo. In Star Wars: Episode V, the classic scene comes before Luke seeks out Jedi Master Yoda on Dagobah and truly begins his training. Unfortunately, Luke is then knocked unconscious, captured by a Wampa, and taken to its cave where the Jedi-in-training is tied upside down. While on the planet Hoth, Luke Skywalker investigates a probe droid sent by the Empire that has discovered the Rebel Alliance’s base. The 1980 sequel takes place three years after the destruction of the Death Star in Star Wars: A New Hope.
